AEO & GEO

Do UAE Marketing Agencies Actually Show Up in AI Search? A Snapshot

Published September 24, 2026

METHODOLOGY (read this first — it defines what this piece can and can't claim)

What this is: A one-time, manually collected snapshot, not a tracked study. I ran a small set of live queries through Google Search and Perplexity on 2026-09-24 and recorded exactly what came back.

What this is NOT:

  • Not a statistically representative sample (6 queries, 2 engines, one run each)
  • Not UAE-geolocated — this ran from a non-UAE browsing session, so results may differ from what someone physically in Dubai or Abu Dhabi sees. AI engines and Google both personalize/localize results, and I have no way to force a UAE IP or Arabic-locale session from here.
  • Not repeated over time — AI answer engines are known to give different answers to the same query run minutes apart. A single snapshot cannot support a claim like "X% citation share."
  • Not covering ChatGPT itself (ChatGPT's web-search mode requires a signed-in session; I did not use your account or credentials to test it, per the rule against handling credentials on your behalf). Ask if you want this added with your own logged-in session.

What it's good for: A directionally honest gut-check on whether gnl.agency shows up at all in AI-mediated answers to the queries you're targeting — worth having, but should be framed to a reader as exactly what it is (a spot-check), not as measurement.

Queries tested (from the audit's Section 6 clusters):

  1. "digital marketing agency Dubai" (head term)
  2. "digital marketing agency UAE" (head term)
  3. "AEO agency Dubai" (AEO/GEO cluster — flagged first priority in the audit)
  4. "GEO agency UAE" (AEO/GEO cluster)
  5. "generative engine optimization UAE" (AEO/GEO cluster)
  6. "AI search optimization Dubai" (AEO/GEO cluster)

Plus two brand-name checks: "gnl.agency" and "who is gang&lani media gnl.agency Dubai."

FINDINGS

1. gnl.agency did not appear in Google's top-10 organic results for any of the six target queries

Across all six searches, gnl.agency was not in the visible results (roughly top 10–12 organic + local-pack listings per query). No AI Overview box rendered for any of the six category queries in this session — either it didn't trigger, or this account/region doesn't show one; I can't tell which from here.

Agencies that did appear repeatedly across these queries: Magneto IT Solutions, Odyssey Marketing, Shaaz SEO, United SEO, SEM Nexus, LenGreo, Digital Gravity, Pluspoint Digital, ValGrow Labs, Integrate Solutions, Hermitz Media, Zenerom, Tenet, NoGood, AppLabx, and several "best AEO/GEO agency" listicles.

2. Perplexity, asked directly for the "best AEO and GEO agency in Dubai for a UAE business," named two competitors — not gnl.agency

Perplexity's answer named Zenerom ("Dubai-based provider explicitly offering SEO, AEO, and GEO, with positioning around visibility in AI-driven search experiences") and Digital Gravity as the two options worth evaluating. gnl.agency did not appear in the answer or its cited sources.

3. Searching Google for the brand name "gnl.agency" surfaces the wrong company in the AI Overview

This is the most concrete and actionable finding. A literal Google search for "gnl.agency" triggered an AI Overview describing "Good News Lab" — an unrelated South African content marketing agency in Gqeberha, founded 2016 — as if it were the answer to the query. The organic results below it were also dominated by unrelated "GNL"-named businesses (GNL Media, GNL Entertainment, GNL Digital Group, Global Net Lease, GNL Strategic). gnl.agency itself did not appear on page one of organic results for its own domain-name query, though site:gnl.agency confirms the site is indexed (About, Services, Insights, Fractional, Contact, and Arabic equivalents all showed up under site: search).

Why this matters: "gnl.agency"/"gang&lani" is a crowded, ambiguous string online — there are several unrelated "GNL" companies with more established web presence. A prospective client who searches the brand name by ear (having heard it in conversation, not seen it written) risks landing on Google's AI Overview describing a different company entirely.

4. Perplexity, asked directly "who is gang&lani media gnl.agency Dubai," did correctly identify the right company

Given the disambiguated query, Perplexity's answer correctly described "gang&lani media, operating in Dubai through gnl.agency" as an independent, senior-led digital marketing agency. So the confusion in finding #3 appears specific to Google's AI Overview matching on the bare domain string, not a universal problem — though this is one data point on one engine, not a pattern I can generalize from.

5. gnl.agency's own site lists a Canadian phone number, not a UAE one

The live homepage (checked 2026-09-24) shows contact as "+1 647 907 9607" and "askus@gnlmedia...". This is a factual observation from the current live site, not a recommendation — flagging it because a UAE-focused buyer may notice a non-UAE number, and because a prior note in this project mentioned "no published phone number yet," which the live site now contradicts (it does show one, just not a UAE one). Worth confirming which is current.

WHAT I'M NOT CLAIMING

  • I'm not claiming these six queries are representative of the full ~35-query bank or of real UAE searcher behavior.
  • I'm not claiming ChatGPT would behave the same way as Google AI Overview or Perplexity — it wasn't tested.
  • I'm not claiming this reflects what a UAE-based user sees, since geolocation wasn't controlled for.
  • I'm not attaching a citation-share percentage or any other number to this — a 6-query, single-run snapshot doesn't support one.

IF YOU WANT THIS TAKEN FURTHER

A defensible published piece would need, at minimum: a larger, fixed query set (the ~35-query bank, or the eventual ~60), each run multiple times across multiple days, ideally from a UAE IP/VPN or via a UAE-based collaborator's browser, across Google AI Overview, Perplexity, and ChatGPT (signed in), with results logged to a spreadsheet before any pattern is asserted. That's a real, multi-day data collection project — not something I can respectably compress into one session without either overstating six data points or inventing the rest. Tell me if you want me to build the logging spreadsheet and start that multi-day collection for real, or if this snapshot is enough as an internal directional read for now.

Pitch plan (only relevant once/if you sign off on publishing something): if expanded into a real dataset, this is a strong PR/link-building angle — "we tested how AI search actually handles UAE marketing agency queries" is a legitimately interesting, evidence-based story for UAE marketing/tech trade press (e.g., Campaign Middle East, Marketing Beat MEA) — but only once it's backed by more than six single-run queries.
